CDS – Grit Classifier
The CDS Grit Classifier by Fluiteco is engineered to efficiently separate and dewater sand from water, handling materials such as street sweepings and filter sand. Essential for the headworks of wastewater treatment plants, this pre-treatment system prevents premature equipment wear, eliminates pipe blockages, and preserves the volumetric capacity of treatment basins, ensuring the maximum longevity of the entire facility.
Sedimentation Process and Hydraulic Separation
The operation is based on a highly effective decantation principle: the sand-water mixture enters a shaped hopper where, due to a drastic reduction in flow velocity, heavier particles settle at the bottom. While excess water is evacuated over a discharge weir, the collected sand is extracted by a screw conveyor. The hopper design is specifically engineered to optimize sedimentation and minimize turbulence, ensuring high separation efficiency even under variable load conditions.
Robust Construction and Mechanical Extraction
Sand is extracted and dewatered by a slow-rotating screw conveyor, available in both shafted and shaftless versions to ensure smooth, clog-free operation. The main structure is entirely constructed from stainless steel to resist abrasion, while the spiral is built from high-strength steel with thicknesses up to 20 mm. The auger is directly coupled to the motor via a flanged shaft, a solution that reduces vibration and simplifies maintenance. For specialized applications, alternative materials such as stainless steel or micro-alloyed steels are available to maximize operational life.
Enhanced Performance with Hydrocyclone (CDS-H Model)
For flow rates exceeding 68 m³/h, Fluiteco offers the CDS-H version, equipped with a hydrocyclone. This system allows for the separation of over 90% of the water from the sand before it enters the hopper, optimizing the machine’s dimensions and drastically improving overall process efficiency. In this configuration, only a minimal fraction of the total flow is directed to the classifier, making the system ideal for high-flow plants that require high reliability and a reduced physical footprint.
The Advantages of Fluiteco Design
The Fluiteco design stands out for its versatility and attention to construction details. The machine offers multiple options for the trough wear liner, available in high-resistance materials such as HDPE, Hardox, or stainless steel. The project’s flexibility also allows for the production of gas-proof versions for sealed operation in confined spaces, the integration of sand washing systems to reduce organic content, and the provision of thermal insulation for outdoor installations in harsh climates. Each unit features easily accessible inspection points and can be integrated with rotation sensors for constant performance monitoring.
