SDS – Rotary Drum Sludge Thickener w/dynamic washing
Designed to optimize solid-liquid separation processes, the SDS is the premier solution for sludge thickening, ensuring a preliminary volume reduction and drastically improving the efficiency of downstream dewatering stages.
The SDS – Rotary Drum Thickener is an advanced, high-precision system specifically developed for the pre-treatment and thickening of municipal and industrial sludge. Its primary objective is to increase the dry solids (DS) concentration of the sludge prior to final treatment, such as mechanical dewatering. This intermediate phase is fundamental for reducing the volumetric load on dewatering machinery, allowing for more compact plant sizing and a significant reduction in energy costs and polymer consumption.
The technological heart of the SDS consists of a rotating drum featuring Wedge Wire technology (v-shaped profile wire), which ensures consistent and reliable filtration. As the sludge is fed into the drum, it is gently moved by an internal screw while the liquid phase percolates through the filter mesh. Thanks to this process, the machine is capable of treating sludge with an initial concentration of up to 1.5% and delivering thickened sludge with adjustable dry solids percentages ranging from 3% to 9%, depending on operational requirements and the type of sludge treated.
The design of the SDS is engineered to guarantee continuous, reliable operation with minimal maintenance requirements. Entirely constructed from AISI 304L or 316L stainless steel, the machine offers excellent corrosion resistance and long-term durability even in the harshest environments. The system is equipped with a timed static washing device and integrated cleaning brushes, as well as provision for odor extraction, ensuring full compliance with environmental safety regulations.
The SDS is the ideal solution for installation upstream of dewatering systems, particularly our SD – Sludge Screw Press. It finds application in various contexts: municipal and industrial wastewater treatment plants for thickening primary, secondary, or mixed sludge. Its ability to handle flow rates up to 40 m³/h (for the SDS400 model) makes it an extremely versatile and high-performing machine for any sludge treatment need.
Available in customizable configurations and equipped with high-efficiency motors managed via inverter (VFD), the SDS series stands as the reference standard for those seeking a robust thickening system that is easy to manage and perfectly integrable into high-performance sludge treatment lines.
